No Reservations - Philippines

Okay, set your DVRs on Monday night at 10PM on the Travel Channel. I'll be interested on Anthony Bourdain's take on Filipino cuisine. I'm biased on Filipino food, but as a Filipino American I'm perplexed on why Filipino cuisine hasn't taken off like Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese food.

i think one of the reasons it hasn't exactly taken off in the way that viet or thai food has is because of the presentation. a lot of filipino food looks like... (i hate to say this about our cuisine, but) MUCK. and the flavors aren't as forgiving as say thai or viet. even for those of us who grew up on it, a lot of the really "exotic" stuff we learned to enjoy over time (think dinuguan, kare-kare, pinakbet, papaitan). it def doesn't mean that it can't be done, though. i think this is your challenge, brah. you, sir, have a calling to the kitchen. follow it!

Agreed, haha...There's a new cooking school in DC that opened up so I'm thinking about signing up for some classes. They have a class on food writing that I'm thinking about taking.
